Architecture / Ecosystem Hacker to set tone for Interstellar Space Science Summit
DREXEL UNIVERSITY, PHILADELPHIA—Architectural designer, conceptualist, & futurist thinker Rachel Armstrong has been announced as First Speaker for Icarus Interstellar’s Starship Congress, the upcoming summit of interstellar and deep-space scientists, organizations and advocates being hosted this September 4-5 by Drexel University, Philadelphia, PA.
Armstrong is founder of the Black Sky Thinking Award, a 2010 Senior TED Fellow, and an Project Persephone Lead Designer for deep space science advocacy organisation Icarus Interstellar. Armstrong, noted for innovative architecture project work such as proposed living “worldship” spacecraft suitable for entire populations and rebuilding Venice, Italy’s decaying aquatic infrastructure using chemically programmable shell-making droplets, is a highly-regarded academic proponent of deep-space exploration.
“From her talks at TED to her published recasting of how we approach the necessity of space exploration, Professor Rachel Armstrong has become one of the architects of humanity’s future,” says Starship Congress strategy director Mike Mongo. “In keeping with Drexel’s university setting and the contemporary approach of today’s students, this year’s theme for Starship Congress is “Interstellar Hackathon”.
